Maritime Arbitration Commission at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation

Created in 1930, the Maritime Arbitration Commission (MAC) was the first permanent arbitration forum to emerge in this country, and it now ranks among the world’s oldest maritime arbitration centers.

MAC was originally created for the only examination of the  disputes which raised in the connection with the escape of the shipping and cargos on the sea. Nowadays the Commission along with the traditional disputes from the contracts of carriage, affreightment of vessels, marine insurance, rescue, collision between seagoing vessels, fishing operations, the object of the examination may be the disputes  incidental with the broker and agency contracts, repairing of the vessels, vessel management, the realization of the trades and many other forms of relationships which appear in the area of the trade maritime traffic.

Since 1999 MAC is a member of the Federation of Commercial Arbitration Institutions.

The new Rules and List of Members of the MAC were confirmed in 2006, came into force on the 1st of January, 2007. There are the outstanding scientists, lawyers- practicians, and foreign going masters among the members of the MAC.

There are numerous reasons for the enterprises, connected with merchant shipping, to include in their contracts the arbitration clause about the transmission the arising disputes to the MAC- having an international recognition maritime arbitration center, providing impartial and qualified examination of the maritime disputes.
